Quick summary

Take note, Delta Air Lines fans: You can get some serious bonus miles this month by booking a cruise.

Starting Friday, Delta Cruises offers customers up to 4 Delta SkyMiles for every dollar spent on select cruises. That's twice the normal offer of 2 miles for every dollar spent.

For example, if you spend $8,000 on a cruise during this promotion, you can earn up to 32,000 miles.

That's a decent number of Delta SkyMiles. TPG currently values Delta SkyMiles at 1.15 cents each, meaning that 32,000 miles would be worth $368 at our valuation. That is nearly 5% of the cost of the trip.

Note that the promotion only applies to the three biggest North America-based cruise lines: Norwegian Cruise Line, Carnival Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean. It also only applies to bookings of certain cabin categories.

In addition, you must act fast to get the bonus miles. The accelerated mileage offer is only available through March 31. It applies to new bookings for cruises scheduled to take place between now and Dec. 31, 2025.

Details of the bonus mile offer

The bonus mile offer is aimed at customers who book a balcony cabin or suite (the two types of cabins that account for most cabins on many ships). Specifically, customers will get:

  • 4 miles per dollar spent on balcony cabins or suites, up from 2 miles per dollar spent
  • 2 miles per dollar spent on all other cabins, the same as before

Among the caveats: Bonus miles are earned per cabin and are awarded to only one passenger per cruise booking. In addition, to qualify, customers must book through the Delta Cruises program.

Also, the number of miles customers earn from the promotion is based on the total cruise purchase price, excluding port charges, port expenses, taxes and insurance.

Other fine print:

  • There is no limit to how many miles you can earn.
  • You must book through Delta Cruises to get the miles.
  • Mileage will post to your Delta SkyMiles account six to eight weeks after your cruise.
  • Cruises must be paid for in U.S. currency.

Which credit card should I use to book?

Looking to earn even more Delta SkyMiles? You can use a Delta SkyMiles credit card, such as the Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card. It earns 2 miles per dollar spent on Delta purchases — including flights. With this card, you can earn 80,000 bonus miles after spending $3,000 in eligible purchases within the first six months of cardmembership.

Don't have a Delta-affiliated card? Use a card that earns bonus points on cruises. A good option is the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, which earns 2 points per dollar spent on travel, including cruises. As a sign-up bonus, you can also earn 60,000 Ultimate Rewards bonus points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening.
