Earn 50% bonus Avios on Airbnb stays and experiences this month

We've previously highlighted ways to earn extra points and miles when booking with Airbnb. Between using the right credit card and double dipping with airline miles on Airbnb stays, the earnings can add up.

Through June 28, you can earn 4.5 Avios per dollar spent on Airbnb stays and Airbnb experiences. That's 50% above your normal earnings, so let's look at this limited-time promotion to help you maximize it.

50% bonus Avios with Airbnb promotion

You can earn 50% bonus Avios, which brings your total to 4.5 Avios per dollar spent with Airbnb during the promotion. Eligible bookings are May 31-June 28. This includes stays and experiences — which can include tours, outdoor activities like whale watching, cooking classes or even a great photographer to snap photos for your Instagram during your next vacation.

TPG values Avios at 1.5 cents each. Thus, 4.5 Avios are worth 6.75 cents — a 6.75% return on your spending. And that's in addition to any credit card points you earn from your stay.

In order to earn your extra Avios, there are some important terms to understand:

• You can earn Avios with Airbnb but will not earn tier points toward British Airways elite status.
• You must provide your British Airways Executive Club number during the booking process.
• Start at the promotion landing page to complete your bookings so the bonus Avios will track.
• The name on the reservation must match the name on the Executive Club account provided during booking; otherwise, Avios will not be awarded.
• Avios will be credited within 60 days of eligible stays or activities.
• Only new bookings made during the promotion period are eligible, not existing bookings that fall within these dates.

Maximizing this promotion

You can earn Avios on your stay or Airbnb experience, but that is just one side of the equation. You can also double dip by earning a second set of points. This is based on what credit card you use.

The following cards can provide good value when paying for reservations with Airbnb:

• American Express® Green Card — earn 3 Membership Rewards points per dollar.
• Chase Sapphire Reserve — earn 3 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar.
• Ink Business Preferred Credit Card — earn 3 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar.*
• Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card — earn 2 Capital One miles per dollar.
• Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card — earn 2 Capital One miles per dollar.

* Note that the Ink Preferred card earns 3 points per dollar on up to the first $150,000 of spending per year in bonus categories, which include travel, then 1 point per dollar.

Another option for earning extra rewards is buying Airbnb gift cards and using those to pay for your bookings. You can buy Airbnb gift cards at supermarkets and earn 4 Membership Rewards points per dollar with the American Express® Gold Card (on up to $25,000 in grocery purchases per calendar year, then 1 point per dollar). Even better, you could buy Airbnb gift cards at an office supply store with the Ink Business Cash Credit Card. This card earns 5% cash back on the first $25,000 spent in combined purchases at office supply stores and on internet, cable and phone services each account anniversary year, then 1%. Plus, if you have a card that earns Ultimate Rewards, you can combine these earnings to turn cash-back rewards into Ultimate Rewards points.

Thus, you can earn points and miles from your credit card on top of the Avios you earn from the Airbnb promotion. We call this double dipping on rewards.

Just remember that you need to go through the British Airways website first to earn the bonus Avios from this promotion. Follow the normal booking process and pay with your preferred method at checkout so you can scoop up extra rewards in the process.
