Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency such as Orbitz or Expedia, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. However, if you’re using The Platinum Card® from American Express, you’ll need to book directly with the airline or through the Amex Travel portal to get 5x MR points. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz or Expedia’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to get the time away from work or family.

Get ready to pack your bags because flights to Brazil are on sale from $400 round-trip in economy and just $580 round-trip in premium economy. The cheap flights are being offered by American Airlines, Avianca, COPA and Delta. The cheap flights are available from Sep. 2019 to April 2020, which are among the best times to visit Brazil. The lowest fares are being offered out of Montreal (YUL) and Toronto (YYZ), meaning you might need to consider a positioning flight to Canada, though there are some good deals out of major US cities like Boston (BOS), Los Angeles (LAX) and Miami (MIA) as well.

Most of the discounted economy tickets include checked bags, meals and seat selection. However, you should strongly consider booking premium economy. TPG's JT Genter flew the same AA Boeing 777-200 aircraft type that’s flying between New York (JFK) and Rio, and found that AA’s premium economy product has a solid offering. The hard product offers extra seat width (2-4-2 configuration vs. 3-4-3 in economy) and more legroom than in economy. The food and service in premium economy was superior as well.
