How to get a free Uber ride to and from your vaccine appointments
Private corporations and other organizations around the U.S. have been making a push for Americans to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
Krispy Kreme was among the first, offering free donuts to anyone who can present a vaccination card, and we've since seen free museum admission, huge prize giveaways and, just this morning, an especially appealing offer from United Airlines.
This Monday, Uber joined the vaccination effort with a very generous offer of its own. From May 24 through 11:55 p.m. ET on July 4, customers can get a free ride of up to $25 to and from each vaccine appointment.
In total, this perk could net you $100 in free Uber rides — $50 if you're getting the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, or $100 split between two round-trips for both appointments for the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines.
You can pair this promotion with other incentives as well. Use the Uber app to get free rides to and from your appointments at New York's American Museum of Natural History, for example, and you'll also get free admission for a group of four.
It's incredibly easy to take advantage of this promotion. Once you make your appointment for the vaccine, or find a location that doesn't require appointments, click the "Vaccine" button on your Uber homepage and select "Get your free ride now." You can also make an appointment with Walgreens by clicking the "Make an appointment" button instead.
If you select the free ride option, you'll be asked to enter the zip code of your vaccination site and select your location. Click the "Request a ride now" option and agree that you're eligible for a free ride.
Once you're done, head back to the Vaccine page and click "Ride from your vaccine now" to book your free return trip.
As you might expect, there are a handful of terms to keep in mind:
- Valid from 5/24 to 7/4/2021 at 11:55 p.m. PST
- Max discount of $25 per ride, up to 4 rides per person
- To and from vaccine sites, each set of two rides at least three weeks apart
- Rides must occur between 6 a.m.–8 p.m.
- Applies to on-demand requests for Uber X or WAV rides
- Pickup or dropoff must be within eligible vaccine sites
Note that you may be on the hook for surcharges, government fees and tolls. If you opt to tip your driver after the ride, you'll be billed that amount, as well. Still, this is a very generous promotion and yet another reason to lock in your vaccination sooner than later.
