If you earn credit card points with any of the major issuers — American Express, Capital One, Chase, Citi or Wells Fargo — you can transfer your points to Flying Blue.
Since Flying Blue is in the SkyTeam alliance, you can search for award seats with fellow SkyTeam airlines (including Delta Air Lines, Virgin Atlantic and Korean Air) through Air France’s website.
Now, you might only think to do this when searching for overseas flights to Europe, but U.S. travelers can find good value on domestic flights by searching for Delta flights here, too. Flying Blue’s rates often beat what you could get using Delta SkyMiles.
All you have to do is select “Book with Miles” on Air France’s website and type in your desired route and date. If there’s a seat available to book with Flying Blue miles, you’ll find it there.
A word of caution: You shouldn’t transfer your points until you’ve found seats and know how many points you’ll need. We don’t recommend transferring points until you’ve found your award since points transfers are not reversible.
You can find domestic one-way economy tickets for as low as 5,000 miles, and some domestic business-class seats can be scored for less than 30,000 miles. Rates are dynamic, and there’s no guarantee of what you’ll find, but date flexibility can be helpful.
Next time you have a stash of points and an idea, it’s worth checking out Air France to see what’s out there for SkyTeam alliance flights.
