If you’ve ever stood in the standard airport security line, shoes in hand, wondering if you’ll make your flight, one of your 2025 resolutions may be to enroll in an expedited airport security program.
Here are the major programs you may be considering:
TSA PreCheck: This program is the easiest and cheapest option. It not only lets you go through a shorter line in U.S. airports, it also lets you leave your shoes on and your laptop in your carry-on. It costs up to $85 and lasts for five years.
Global Entry: This program has a more involved enrollment process, but it’s a massive timesaver for those who regularly travel internationally. It doesn’t always help you when you’re abroad, but it allows you to go through an expedited process when you get back into the U.S. — and skip those impossibly long passport lines (plus, kids are now free!). It costs $120 and is good for five years. The best part? It also includes TSA PreCheck, so you get the most bang for your buck with this option.
Clear Plus: This is a program that uses personal data, such as your fingerprint and iris scan, to allow you to go through security quickly at the airport and select entertainment venues. It’s the most expensive, coming in at $199 annually, but many people find that it’s worth the cost — especially when their credit card is footing the bill.
And if you find yourself at the airport remembering too late that you forgot to enroll in one of these programs, you might luck out and be able to sign up at the airport.
