Airlines add swanky seats, high-tech bells and whistles

Delta Air Lines flights are about to get more high-tech. During a major spectacle of an event last week at the Sphere in Las Vegas, Delta announced a big boost for its inflight entertainment systems.
Over the coming years, many of Delta’s newly delivered planes will get newer, smarter 4K seatback screens — complete with Bluetooth connectivity that should allow you to connect your Apple AirPods no matter which cabin you’re flying in.
That’s on top of free, fleetwide high-speed Wi-Fi (SkyMiles membership required) the airline is rolling out as we speak.
But Delta is hardly the only airline vying for your business with the latest tech and swankiest seats. And there’s plenty to look forward to in 2025 and beyond.
For instance, just this month, United Airlines said its rollout of free Starlink Wi-Fi across its fleet will be done sooner than expected.
American Airlines, meanwhile, will debut its much-anticipated Flagship Business lie-flat suites in 2025, complete with sliding privacy doors. You’ll find them first on American’s new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets — not to mention its first Airbus A321XLRs, the long-range, single-aisle aircraft the airline hopes will eventually open up never-before-seen international routes.
2025 will also see Southwest Airlines’ first-ever extra-legroom seats start appearing on some planes (sooner than you might expect!). Plus, by the end of this year, Frontier Airlines hopes to debut its first-ever first-class seats.
All in all, there are plenty of new bells, whistles and improvements to make flying more exciting in 2025. Here are some of the top things to know about:
