Some Suites-Only SPG Properties Now Bookable Through the Marriott App

If you've been eyeing a suites-only property from the legacy SPG program but have run into difficulties booking these over the phone, go ahead and fire up your Marriott app. It appears that some of these properties are now bookable without calling!

For example, I was just able to confirm a one-night stay in a Garden Villa at the St. Regis Maldives:

Another colleague had success booking a five-night stay at the St. Regis Maldives. My TPG colleague Summer Hull was able to do the same for a Reefside Pool room at the St. Regis Bora Bora, and my fellow Editor-at-Large Zach Honig was even able to snag a five-night stay there for next summer:

I'm also seeing availability for the following room types at additional properties:

  • Le Meridien Bora Bora: Classic Bungalow
  • Vana Belle, a Luxury Collection Resort, Koh Samui, Thailand: Classic Pool Suite
  • Mystique, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Santorini: Vibrant Suite

Unfortunately, it seems like this isn't completely consistent yet, as many of my subsequent searches have yielded the following error message:

When I click "Continue" the app redirects me to SPG's website, and I'm only given regular paid rates for the rooms.

Keep in mind too that Marriott has delayed implementing Points Advance for SPG properties, so you'll likely need to have the full number of points for the stay in your account.

All that being said, this is definitely a positive development and hopefully indicates exactly which room types are bookable at "standard" award rates for these high-demand properties. We'll continue to monitor this closely, but please let us know if you have success locking in stays at these resorts through the app!
