Over the past few years, airlines and hotel chains have really ramped up their efforts to offer benefits through a variety of partnerships with other brands, be it an opportunity to earn Starpoints on Uber rides, which Starwood has offered since 2015.

Unfortunately that latter promotion will soon come to an end. Starwood parent Marriott confirmed today that SPG's Uber partnership will be discontinued after December 17, 2017 — you'll continue to earn points for rides only through 11:59pm ET on the 17th. Additionally, if you have a stay that overlaps with a Uber trip, you'll need to check in at the hotel prior to 11:59pm on the same date in order to be eligible for 2 Starpoints per dollar spent, rather than the usual 1 Starpoint per $2, which went into effect earlier this year.

While it's not clear exactly why this particular promotion won't be extended, Uber's been making an effort to shift rewards to its own platform, with credit issued through Visa Local Offers and a new no-fee Uber-branded credit card, which offers up to 4% back on select purchases.

Partnerships with other programs will continue, though — you'll still get $200 in Uber credits each year with The Platinum Card from American Express, for example. Meanwhile, Uber's largest rival offers an opportunity to earn a minimum of one Delta mile per dollar spent on Lyft rides, so that could be an option if you're looking to continue accruing credit with a partner whenever you book a ride.
