Delta Air Lines is dropping nonstop service to two Central American destinations from a key West Coast hub — but launching two new routes for the summer months.

Starting in early May, the Atlanta-based carrier will end regularly-scheduled flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to both Guatemala City and San Salvador.

Meanwhile, Delta is beefing up its West Coast flying for the summer months by bringing back LAX flights to Anchorage, Alaska, for the first time in several years. The airline will do the same in restoring service from Las Vegas to San Jose, California.

Here's what to know about the changes.

Delta cuts 2 LAX routes to Central America

Delta will end the two Los Angeles flights to El Salvador and Guatemala within the first several days of May, the carrier confirmed this week.

Delta's last LAX nonstop to El Salvador International Airport (SAL) departs May 4, with the final northbound flight returning a day later, on May 5.

The end of the carrier's service between Southern California and Guatemala City's La Aurora International Airport (GUA) will come a day later, with a final southbound flight on May 5 and last northbound flight on May 6.

"This adjustment aligns with demand and supports increased domestic flying from Los Angeles," a spokesperson for the carrier said in a statement Friday.

It's worth noting, LAX will still have a direct link to both San Salvador and Guatemala City.

Alaska Airlines, Avianca, United and Volaris Costa Rica serve the LAX-GUA route, per Cirium.

Avianca, United and Volaris El Salvador fly the LAX-SAL route.

Delta itself will still serve both Central American destinations through its Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) hub.

New Delta service to Alaska

On the flip side, Delta will launch service between Los Angeles and Alaska later this year.

Starting on May 24 (the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend) the airline will begin weekly nonstop flights to Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC).

Delta will operate the flights with its Boeing 737-900ER, which features 20 first-class recliners and 27 Delta Comfort Plus seats.

The service will run through Aug. 30, the Saturday of Labor Day weekend.

Delta will directly compete on the route with Alaska Airlines.

Bringing back LAS-SJC

Finally, Delta will restore nonstop daily service from Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas to the Mineta International Airport (SJC) in San Jose, California, for the summer months.

Launching June 8, Delta will fly the route with a 76-seat Embraer 175 regional jet flying under the Delta Connection branding.

Delta last flew regularly-scheduled service between the two cities in 2020, Cirium shows.

Several carriers already fly the route, including Alaska, Frontier Airlines, Spirit Airlines, United and Southwest Airlines.
