American Express has a long history of offering tailored events for its card members.

From wine tastings with well-known sommeliers to exclusive dinners prepared by celebrity chefs, the issuer does more for its top card members than just award Membership Rewards and a handful of $200 rebate credits.

Now, Amex is teaming up with a new partner — Boom Supersonic — to offer a different type of event, one that'll certainly appeal to (deep-pocketed) aviation enthusiasts.

Specifically, the issuer exclusively told TPG on Wednesday that it'll begin offering "curated" and "immersive" experiences that showcase Overture, the 65- to 88-seat commercial airliner that Boom plans to roll off the production line in 2025 (and fly in 2029), as part of a new multi-year tie-up that officially launches on Thursday.

Amex is already taking sign-ups for its first Boom-focused event, officially called the "Boom Supersonic x American Express Farnborough International Airshow Experience."

For $1,975 per person, any cardholder of the Centurion or The Platinum Card® from American Express can purchase a three-day experience at the Farnborough International Airshow in July, which will include special access to tours, exhibitions, air show demonstrations and more.

Card members who purchase the experience through Amex will enjoy additional behind-the-scenes access, such as a tour of the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) operations center and a private dinner reception at the Brooklands Museum, hosted by the former chief pilot of British Airways’ Concorde fleet.

As part of the tie-up, attendees will receive exclusive access to the Boom Supersonic chalet throughout the airshow.

Eligible card members can purchase tickets through the concierge team by calling the number on the back of their card and selecting or saying “concierge” when prompted. Those with the Centurion card can begin purchasing tickets on April 13 at 1 p.m. ET, and ticket sales will open to those with the Platinum card on April 14 at 1 p.m. ET.

It wasn't immediately clear if Amex has a cap on how many tickets it'll sell.

The Boom partnership comes just over a year after American Express Ventures made a strategic investment in Boom to support the development of the Overture aircraft in March 2021.

Meanwhile, United announced plans to purchase up to 50 of the company's passenger jet, which is slated to become the first supersonic commercial jet since the Concorde.

The Concorde was retired in 2003 after it proved to be economically unsustainable for airlines, in a market that had for decades been focused on lowering costs and improving operating efficiency, rather than speed.

Boom, however, has insisted that it can make supersonic flight practical for the current airline market and more affordable for passengers.

Some industry observers remain skeptical about Boom's plans, but at least those who love aviation will have some new experiences to choose from with American Express.
