You probably know about the limited-time-only, best-ever offer on the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card. Right now, new cardholders earn an amazing 100,000 Ultimate Rewards points after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening.
Even though I won’t receive that epic welcome bonus (which is worth a whopping $2,050, per TPG’s July 2026 valuations), I’ve just happily paid this card’s $95 annual fee for another year. Here’s why this card stays firmly in my wallet year after year:
I recoup the annual fee immediately. The now up-to-$100 statement credit each year for prepaid hotel bookings made through Chase Travel℠ (recently doubled from $50) couldn’t be easier to use. I book even one night at my choice of 600,000-plus hotels worldwide and immediately come out $5 ahead of the annual fee.
Excellent earning rates for a low-fee card. The Sapphire Preferred now earns 3 points per dollar across many of the categories where I spend the most: dining, gas stations, EV charging, eligible vacation rentals, online grocery purchases (excluding Target, Walmart and wholesale clubs) and select streaming services. That means I’m earning on even more of my everyday spending than I was before.
If I’m happy paying $95 every year without receiving another welcome bonus, imagine the head start you’ll have with those 100,000 bonus points in your account.
