Airport lounges have addressed overcrowding from several angles, but our favorite approach is opening brand-new lounges.
The past few weeks have seen some pretty exciting lounge openings across the U.S., so let’s get you up to speed so you know where to head before your next flight:
A swanky cocktail lounge in Sin City: The just-opened Sidecar by The Centurion Lounge at Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) serves cocktails and a seasonal menu of made-to-order dishes in an intimate, elevated setting. This is a brand-new type of lounge for American Express that is a “sidecar” alternative of sorts to the traditional Centurion Lounge.
Don’t expect to post up and work for three hours between flights here. In fact, you can only get in up to 90 minutes before your flight. Instead, think of it as more of a postsecurity speakeasy that you don’t need a password to get into (but you will need one of these top cards for Amex Centurion Lounges).
A first-of-its-kind lounge in Dallas: Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) just opened not one, but two new lounges. There’s a new Plaza Premium Lounge that is accessible through the Priority Pass membership that comes with many popular travel cards.
And then right next door, you’ll find the first Plaza Premium First Lounge in the U.S. You can expect buffet and table-service dining options, a full bar with specialty cocktails, showers, and comfortable seating areas. Know, though, that entry is a bit more exclusive. Full entry details are in our story, but the short of it is that you’ll need to travel in first or business class on a participating airline or pay a fee (that might actually be worth it, in some cases).
