Airport chaos appears to be cooling off just in time for Thanksgiving, but some of us (myself included) may still prefer the steadiness of a long drive over flying this holiday season.
We talk a lot about using credit card rewards and benefits for air travel, but there are plenty of ways they can improve your road trips, too.
Here are three ideas to make your rewards work when you hit the open road:
No. 1: Use rewards to cover a car rental. If you rent a car, you can use most credit card points (either while booking or applied to your balance as cash back) if you book through that card’s travel portal. You can also reimburse yourself with Capital One miles if you don’t want to book through a portal. Some airline programs even allow you to use your miles when booking cars through their portals. (Just know this likely won’t be the most lucrative way to use your rewards.)
