And, thanks to some excellent online advice, I did. I bought the best liquid containers and compression packing cubes and perfected my own art of carry-on packing — complete with an air of superiority as I zipped past the bag check line each time I arrived at the airport.
But recently, I took a few trips where I decided to go back to my checked-bag roots — and I remembered why I loved it to begin with.
Standing in the baggage check line is a small price to pay for the freedom it affords me. Not worrying about packing too many liquids, wheeling a suitcase in and out of the airport bathroom, or hoisting my (too heavy) suitcase above my head on the plane? Pure luxury.
Plus, thanks to the credit cards in my wallet, I can always bring at least one checked bag with me for free when I travel.
So, Team Carry-On, I’m happy to give you one more overhead bin spot on any flight we share. You can find me (and all my liquids) at the baggage carousel.
