There are two transferable rewards cards on the market with lucrative limited-time offers right now. You might be wondering how to decide between the two offers, so we’ll break it down for you with pros and cons so you can make the best decision based on how you earn and redeem your travel rewards.
Venture Rewards: New applicants can earn 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 in the first three months from account opening, plus a $250 Capital One Travel credit to use in the first cardholder year.
If you want to use the travel portal
Many travel rewards beginners find the travel portal to be the easiest, low-hassle way to utilize their points and miles.
Sapphire Preferred: You can redeem your Chase Ultimate Rewards points for 1.25 cents each through Chase Travel℠ as a Sapphire Preferred cardholder. If you go this route, you’ll get $1,250 in value from the bonus.
Venture Rewards: You can redeem Capital One miles for 1 cent apiece through Capital One Travel. If you go this route, your 75,000 bonus miles are worth $750, giving you a total value of $1,000 for the entire bonus with the $250 Capital One credit.
If you want to use transfer partners
Both cards offer a plethora of travel partners to which you can transfer your points or miles in order to extract maximum value — this is how TPG staffers and many others book business-class lie-flat seats.
Sapphire Preferred: Chase has 14 hotel and airline transfer partners, including high-value options like World of Hyatt. Because of these options, TPG’s April 2025 valuations peg Ultimate Rewards at 2.05 cents each — meaning your 100,000 bonus points could be worth a staggering $2,050 if you take advantage of these redemption options.
Venture Rewards: You can transfer your miles to any of Capital One’s 15-plus hotel and airline partners and get a value of 1.85 cents per mile according to TPG’s April 2025 valuations. This means you’ll get a value of $1,388 from your bonus miles if you opt to go this route — for a total bonus value of $1,638 when you also consider the $250 credit.
Both cards come with a reasonable $95 annual fee and a $50 annual hotel credit.
The Venture Rewards also includes a credit for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry once every four years, while the Sapphire Preferred offers some industry-leading travel protections to take the stress out of delays and cancellations.
