Having more than a few credit cards in my wallet stresses me out. However, I know many people (several of my co-workers included) who enjoy choosing the best card for every purchase and taking advantage of the statement credits that come with many cards.
They see it as a challenge. I see it as just one more thing to keep up with on an already too-long list of adult responsibilities.
If you feel the same way, you should steal my personal credit card strategy. Rather than a dozen (or more) cards, I recommend three main card categories:
Then, I have one card for my most frequently flown airline, the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card, which just launched a limited-time welcome offer you should definitely check out. And I have one card for the hotel brand I stay with most often, the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card, which also currently has a limited-time offer.
To copy this strategy, just think about which hotel brand and/or airline you use most often. When you book a hotel or flight, use one of that company’s cobranded cards. Many hotel and airline cards also have bonus categories that can help you earn additional points or miles on everyday spending.
These articles can help you choose which mix of cards is best for you:
