If you are new here, welcome. I’m Caroline, a Chicago-based travel news reporter. If you are a longtime TPG reader, you’ve likely read one of my many stories on Global Entry.
Global Entry gives preapproved, low-risk travelers expedited entry into the U.S. Members can expedite the customs process by skipping the regular arrivals line in favor of kiosks for Global Entry members only. These kiosks are currently available at more than 75 domestic airports.
Though Global Entry is supremely helpful for Americans returning to the U.S., Americans can now access expedited entry benefits in Australia and New Zealand (with hopefully more countries to be added), which is a nice bonus of the Trusted Traveler Program. Non-U.S. citizens from 20-plus countries, including Canada, Japan and the United Kingdom, can also apply to use Global Entry at U.S. airports.
Even if you’re not a frequent international traveler, you should still consider Global Entry because membership also gives you access to TSA PreCheck for five years. Global Entry costs $120 for five years, while TSA PreCheck is $78-$85 depending on the enrollment provider.
Several cobranded airline and hotel credit cards offer up to $120 in statement credit reimbursement for the application fee. This credit is typically available every four to five years, though you should check the terms for your specific card for the exact frequency.
