When I tell people my job title, senior hotels reporter at The Points Guy, they frequently first say, “That’s not a real job.” After I convince them that what I do is real (and explain what exactly it is I do), the next question is usually, “Where should I stay?” And that’s where it gets tricky.
First, I’m likely to point you to one of our incredible lists highlighting TPG’s passion for hotels, like the best hotels of 2024. Or I’ll point you to a list of our favorite hotels within a certain loyalty program where your elite status can get you big upgrades.
I’d inform you that if you love a fabulous boutique hotel as much as I do, you’re not out of luck with points and miles. You can actually book tons of boutique hotels through Hilton’s partnership with Small Luxury Hotels of the World and Mr & Mrs Smith hotels via World of Hyatt. In fact, I just got back from a fabulous stay at Hermitage Bay, a wildly upscale full-board resort in Antigua where every room is a stunning villa — that you can now book with Hilton Honors points.
Beyond that, certain credit cards even offer their own luxury hotel booking service with elitelike perks. I love to book hotels through Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts with The Platinum Card® from American Express because I get complimentary breakfast, guaranteed late checkout and the chance for room upgrades at many hotels I love that don’t have loyalty programs. Chase has its own program for certain cardholders called The Edit.
Lastly, I’d tell you that I love a great all-inclusive hotel — and one of your 2025 resolutions should be to visit one of the best in the world or the ones we have right here in the U.S. My recommendation? Why not earn and burn Hyatt points at the adults-only Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana surrounded by gorgeous beaches, one of my favorite pools and plenty of great food options?
