In two weeks, I’m trading blustery New York for … well, still chilly London and Paris. You probably thought I was going to say Cabo or the Maldives, but I actually really enjoy the quieter times after the holidays to travel to some of my favorite big cities. These less busy times, frequently called “dead weeks” or “dead months,” provide a great respite from the usual throngs of crowds, even if does often mean bundling up a little extra or putting up with the sun setting about the time you finish brunch.
For this particular trip, though, I’m saving a ton of money thanks to low demand at hotels and Virgin Atlantic’s recently rolled-out dynamic pricing structure that saw one-way flights from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to London’s Heathrow Airport (LHR) for just about 6,000 points with a 40% transfer bonus which ended Dec. 31.
If you’re looking for some inspiration for where to travel this year, whether you plan to go during peak dates or shoulder season, browse TPG’s list of the best places to travel in 2025. Amsterdam has a lot going for it this year, as our team reported, but it’s also a great place to visit between now and the beginning of March when spring break tourists start flocking to town.
I’m not sure where else I’ll go in 2025, be it for personal travel or for TPG, but you know I’ll be sharing here, on the site and over on my Instagram account every step of the way!
