Whether you’re the type to get started immediately on your goals for the new year or you’re watching football today and planning to start on your goals … later, don’t forget to add “earn some super-valuable welcome offers” to your list for 2025.
My favorite thing about getting a new card in January is that I’ll earn the welcome bonus in time to turn around and use those points and miles for a trip in the same year. Especially when it’s cold and dreary outside, there’s nothing like earning rewards that can take me somewhere warm in just a few months.
Here are some current offers you won’t want to miss:
If airline miles are your focus for the new year, now is a great time to apply for the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® credit card. As a new cardholder, you’ll earn 70,000 bonus miles plus Alaska’s Companion Fare ($99 fare plus taxes and fees from $23) after spending $3,000 in the first 90 days from account opening. Cardholders also enjoy perks like free checked bags on Alaska flights and a discounted lounge membership.
With the Citi Strata Premier℠ Card, you can earn 75,000 ThankYou points after spending $4,000 in the first three months from account opening. These points are worth $1,350 according to TPG’s December 2024 valuations, thanks to Citi’s range of 21 transfer partners. This card also earns bonus rewards in a wide range of categories — including gas purchases — making it a great way to increase your wallet’s earning potential.
If hotel nights are in your future, there are limited-time welcome offers on Hilton’s cobranded cards. The Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card is offering new cardmembers the chance to earn 165,000 Hilton Honors bonus points after spending $3,000 in the first six months of card membership. Adding this card to your wallet now is a great way to bank a solid stash of Hilton points to fund a trip later this year, but this offer ends Jan. 8, so you’ll want to hurry if you’re thinking about it.
If you have a small business with significant expenses, you’ll want to consider The Business Platinum Card® from American Express. Right now, it’s offering new cardholders the chance to earn 150,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $20,000 in the first three months of card membership. This is a pretty steep spending requirement, but worth a whopping $3,000 according to our December 2024 valuations. If you’re spending that much anyway, this is a great way to get a strong return on your expenses.
