Whether you’re locking in as much elite status as you can before the end of the year or planning to fly on an airline other than your favorite in 2025, status matches can be your best friend.
With an elite status match, an airline or hotel loyalty program will match status you have with a competing program for a period of time.
But before you get too excited, note that your matched status will end much faster than status earned the traditional way — often after just a few months. And status matches often include a requirement, or “challenge,” to take a certain number of flights or stay a certain number of qualifying nights to keep it longer.
If you know you’ll be flying with an airline outside of your preferred program in the coming months or staying with a hotel brand that might not be your go-to, it’s worth checking out if you can take advantage of a similar status match offer.
