I know it’s Monday morning, but bear with me through a little quick math: There are only 52 days until Thanksgiving. That means it’s time to get airfare booked — and don’t wait on those Christmas or New Year’s flights, either.
After a record-breaking summer at airports, expect huge crowds this holiday season, whether you’re traveling to a big U.S. city, a tropical destination or a ski resort.
This year, the airfare experts at Google Flights are suggesting you book Thanksgiving flights sometime in early October to land the best deal — and December holiday flights by the latter part of this month.
My top advice: Be as flexible as you possibly can in where, when and how you travel. If you have to leave at 6 p.m. on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, you may be in for some sticker shock.
Don’t rule out a holiday season redemption, either! A recent TPG report found points and miles don’t go quite as far during the holidays, but there are ways (like booking a premium seat) to still get outsize value out of your hard-earned rewards.
