On the lookout for better airfare? Those of us at TPG make Google Flights our first stop in the quest for a bargain on our way to cruising at 38,000 feet in the sky. The nifty travel tool puts the best possible airfare at your fingertips and can help you keep an eye out for price drops on your planned vacation — and even monitor cash versus award rates. There’s been a few updates lately, including Southwest Airlines fares now showing up.
Check out TPG’s guide to Google Flights for all our favorite tips and tricks, including using the Explore map for when we want to get away but don’t know exactly where we want to go. You might just end up on a same-day flight to Los Cabos for your birthday!
If you do know precisely where you want to go but think the airfare is a little steep at the moment, use the price history tool to gauge if airfare is higher than usual and then set up a price alert — Google Flights will send you an email if and when prices come down (this has saved me hundreds of dollars on holiday travel!).
We like to use Google Flights for research and then book directly with the airline. Check out our guide on booking via a portal versus booking directly.
Of course, we’re all about award redemptions, too. Utilize the Points Path web browser extension to compare cash and points rates before you book.

That’s all from me for today. I’ll catch y’all tomorrow!
