Recently, United Airlines made it easier for friends and families to book award travel by allowing United MileagePlus members to “pool” their miles in one shared account. Sharing and redeeming miles this way can help you earn and redeem free flights faster and makes for a more seamless booking experience.
In fact, several hotel and airline programs allow members to combine points and miles from several accounts in one account, usually for no cost.
All three of my kids have frequent flyer accounts with the major U.S. airlines. This ensures that every time we fly, they earn miles that can be redeemed for future flights. Certain airlines allow us to pool our miles by combining them in one account.
When we are ready to redeem our miles for an award flight, I can use our pooled miles to cover all of our tickets in one booking rather than making five separate points bookings.
There are other ways to benefit from points pooling. Hilton, Hyatt and Marriott allow you to share points with other members, so if you are planning a getaway with friends or family members, you can combine your points to have enough for a bigger redemption.
