Marriott made headlines when it announced that The Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, California, will join Marriott’s luxury portfolio July 1 and eventually become a St. Regis.
In aviation news, there were positive and not-so-positive announcements from U.S. carriers. The good news for Sin City fans is that Southwest Airlines will expand in Las Vegas with the addition of three new routes from Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) to airports in New York and Michigan. Southwest also added 42 new flights for the NFL season.
In less pleasing news, Spirit Airlines is scrambling to stop losing money by cutting six routes, including from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport (OAK), which will no longer see any nonstop services.
