Did you know you can book an airline itinerary that will take you around the world using miles?
Several airline loyalty programs have programs that allow you to, quite literally, encircle the globe, visiting multiple continents and a handful of destinations before returning to your home city.
To book a round-the-world trip, you can transfer your flexible credit card points to an international airline participating in one of the three major alliances — Oneworld, Star Alliance or SkyTeam.
Then, you can book a series of flights on a combination of airline partners as you hop from one continent to another.
For example, Tokyo-based All Nippon Airways has a round-the-world option popular at TPG.
It allows you to make up to eight stops, including up to four in Japan. That means you could explore Japan, tour Singapore and wander through Europe — all on the same trip.
There are some rules to follow: You can only cross the Atlantic and Pacific once each, and there’s no backtracking!
