Where would you go if someone offered you 75,000 Chase points for a last-minute trip?
Well, since the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and the Chase Sapphire Reserve® both have their highest sign-up bonus in a year, TPG gave me the opportunity to prove you could go somewhere amazing with just 75,000 Ultimate Rewards points — the same amount as the current limited-time bonus on these cards.
I grabbed my computer and played around. Before I knew it, my bags were packed and I was off on a quick trip … to Greece. Here’s how I did it.
First, I scored a round-trip flight from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Athens International Airport (ATH) in an Emirates economy seat for just 45,000 points and $150 in taxes and fees. Emirates is a pretty luxurious airline, and nine-plus hours in economy flew by thanks to the comfortable seat, great service and pretty delicious food. Even though the overnight flight left at midnight, I arrived rested and ready for an evening of exploring.
Next, I checked into the Grand Hyatt Athens at a rate of 12,000 points per night. There, I sleep in a chic, modern room with a king-size bed and plenty of space to spread out. The room was great, but the star of the hotel was the rooftop infinity pool, where you can swim out to a ledge that offers breathtaking views of the Acropolis.
The rest of my brief visit was spent exploring the ancient city, seeing all of its must-visit sights and eating all kinds of delicious food. Even though my trip was short and sweet, you could easily use 75,000 points to book an entire trip to Greece and use cash to island hop or head to another major European city.
Right now, the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and the Chase Sapphire Reserve® both have a sign-up bonus of 75,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points after you spend $4,000 on purchases within the first three months of account opening.
