Many cruise lovers prefer big ships over smaller ones, and for good reason. Bigger vessels naturally offer more onboard options — from more restaurants and bars to more decktop attractions.
But sailing on a smaller ship does have its advantages.
I was reminded of this a few weeks ago when cruising around Spain on Azamara Cruises’ Azamara Journey. Like all Azamara ships, it’s about an eighth the size of today’s biggest megaships and carries a small fraction of the people — something that made all the difference with the particular itinerary that I was on.
