While United has grabbed the lion’s share of headlines when it comes to exciting international routes in recent years, it’s hard to ignore Delta’s latest international announcement. It will fly to Malta, Ibiza or Sardinia — but which one will be up to its SkyMiles frequent flyer members. They’ll vote to “pick the winner.”
But it was Alaska Airlines that stole the show on the loyalty front. In one of the biggest frequent flyer updates of the decade, the company rolled out Atmos Rewards — the new combined loyalty program for it and merger partner Hawaiian Airlines.
The program is expected to be a heavy hitter among U.S. programs. It’s received mostly positive reviews and comes with innovative features like choosing how to earn status and complimentary upgrades to lie-flat seats on international routes. There’s also a new premium credit card with a 100,000-point welcome bonus.
That’s all for this week. Happy traveling until I see you again in September.
