Cities: Atlanta; Boston; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Chicago; New Orleans; Paris; Philadelphia; Rome; San Francisco; Seattle; Tokyo; and many others
How to book: Through the Capital One Travel portal sale landing page
Book by: Tuesday, Oct. 17 (or while supplies last)

Sample travel

One discount Capital One currently offers is 40% off eligible hotel stays (up to $200) in St. Martin. In this case, you can spend two nights at the Grand Case Beach Club for $373.92 after the sale.

CAPITALONE.COM

Capital One Premier Collection hotels aren't eligible for the sale in our tests. Remember that you generally won't earn hotel points or elite nights (or any elite status benefits) when you book a hotel through the Capital One Travel portal.

I'm more inclined to use this sale to book discounted flights. For example, you can save up to $50 on flights to San Diego. In our tests, flights that cost less than $50 are free even after adding Capital One's rapid rebooking add-on to a Frontier Airlines flight from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) to San Diego International Airport (SAN).

If you're considering a ski trip to Aspen, Colorado, this winter, you can get up to $200 off your flights and 20% off hotels (up to $200). Unlike in the case of hotels, if you add your United MileagePlus number to your Capital One Travel booking, you should earn miles and receive any status benefits you'd ordinarily receive with United.

You can also use this sale to get $25 off Avis, Budget and Fox rental cars. This 24-hour rental from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) comes to just $18.43 after the $25 discount.

Maximize your purchase

If you're planning travel with a spouse or friend with a Capital One account, consider booking separately if you've reached the maximum discount for your destination.

With the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, you can earn 5 miles for every dollar spent on flights booked through the Capital One Travel portal. Based on TPG's valuations, this translates to a 9.25% return in Capital One miles. Additionally, when you book hotels and rental cars through the Capital One Travel portal, you can earn 10 miles for every dollar spent, which amounts to an 18.5% return.

Alternatively, the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card earns 2 miles for every dollar spent on flights booked through the Capital One Travel portal and 5 miles for every dollar spent on hotels and rental cars (also through the Capital One Travel portal).

Bottom line

If you have already made travel arrangements, it could still be beneficial to reconsider and rebook your trip using the Capital One Travel portal to take advantage of the ongoing sale. This sale offers attractive deals on hotels, rental cars and flights. Some hotel and flight deals have already been booked, so consider making plans quickly.
