Breeze Airways adds 2 routes and a new state to its map
Cue "The Simpsons" theme.
Springfield has landed a low-cost carrier. That will come this winter when Breeze lands in the city with two nonstop routes to Florida.
Which Springfield, you ask?
While "The Simpsons" was famously vague about which Springfield it was set in, Breeze is happy to say it'll be flying from the one in Illinois.
Breeze service from Springfield's Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport (SPI) begins Dec. 1 with twice-weekly service to Orlando. Flights to Tampa, also twice weekly, begin Dec. 4.
"We are extremely excited to be the first airport in Illinois to welcome Breeze Airways with non-stop service from Springfield's Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport to Orlando International and Tampa International Airports," Frank Vala, chair of the Springfield Airport Authority Board of Commissioners, said in a statement announcing the new routes from the airport. "Breeze's commitment to Springfield, demonstrates the confidence they have in our community to support these new routes and to grow as new opportunities become available."
A new look: Breeze has a new, more economical Airbus A220 configuration
Introductory fares on both routes begin at $49 each way, but travelers should be sure to make sure to take note of additional fees. Breeze's cheapest fare type — its "Nice" fare — includes additional charges for things like seat assignments and both carry-on and checked bags. Breeze's "Nicer" and "Nicest" fare types include a checked bag.
Breeze will use its Airbus A220-300 aircraft on both of its new routes from Springfield. The schedule details are below.
