American Airlines Adds New Service to Seoul, Dusseldorf, Lima and Dublin
American Airlines has said on more than one occasion that its path to a longterm successful business model is focusing on international and premium traffic. This strategy seems to be paying off, considering that international revenue has been up in 2012 and they are starting to see a greater demand for premium seats.
While American currently has a dated premium product that features mostly angled-lie flat seats in business class, starting with their new 777-300 aircraft, American will begin rolling out new interiors- including a new premium economy, business and first class seats on many aircraft- including a new fleet of transcontinental planes.
On to the exciting news, today American announced the following new routes:
- Dallas-Seoul (ICN)
- Begins May 9, 2013, subject to government approval, and is available for sale as of Nov. 4th
- Will be flown with their current three-class 777-200
- New York (JFK)-Dublin (DUB)
- Begins June 12, 2013, subject to government approval, and is available for sale November 4, 2012
- Will be flown with a two-class international 757 and complements American's ORD-DUB service
- Chicago (ORD) -Dusseldorf (DUS)
- Begins April 11, 2013, subject to government approval
- Will be flown with a two class 767-300 beginning
- DFW-Lima (LIM)
- Beginning April 2, 2013 and available for sale on Nov. 4, 2012
- Will be flown with a two class international 757
AA also announced new domestic routes as well:
- DFW-Beaumont/Port Arthur (BPT)
- 4 flights/day with CRJ-200, which has 50 seats
- Begins Feb. 14, 2013 and available for sale Nov. 4, 2012
- DFW/ORD - Columbia (COU)
- Begins Feb. 14, 2013 and available for sale Nov. 4, 2012
- Flown with Embraer 145, 50 seats
- DFW-COU will have two flights/day and ORD-COU will have one flight/day
- DFW-Fargo (FAR)
- Begins Feb. 14, 2013 and available for sale Nov. 4, 2012
- Flown with CRJ 200, 50 seats, one flight/day
In my opinion new routes mean new opportunities to earn and redeem miles and use systemwide upgrades. Of course these routes are subject to government approval and may change if a merger becomes official, but I think this announcement is (finally) some good news for AA flyers.
