Just a couple of weeks after increasing the redemption rates on 548 properties, IHG has launched a new promotion offering award nights in New York City with up to a 25% discount.

In order to get this discount, you must book and stay by April 30, 2019. And this discount is limited to the following participating NYC properties:

  • Hotel Indigo Brooklyn: 40,000 ⇒ 30,000 points per night (25% discount)
  • EVEN Brooklyn: 40,000 ⇒ 30,000 points per night (25% discount)
  • EVEN Midtown East: 45,000 ⇒ 35,000 points per night (22% discount)
  • EVEN Times Square South: 50,000 ⇒ 40,000 points per night (20% discount)
  • Hotel Indigo Lower East Side: 55,000 ⇒ 45,000 points per night (18% discount)

At current TPG valuations, IHG Rewards points are worth 0.5 cents each. That means you can score the Hotel Indigo Brooklyn or EVEN Brooklyn for around $150 per night in points. While that's not bad for NYC during peak travel seasons, you should check cash prices to make sure you're getting good value from your IHG points.

If you are getting a good deal and need to stock up on points, IHG is currently running a 75% bonus points promotion — allowing members to purchase points at just 0.57 cents each.

Another important aspect to keep in mind when booking with cash or points is that IHG is continually tacking on insidious "destination fees" and "facility fees" on more and more of its properties. These aren't disclosed until the final booking page, so be aware when booking. For example, the Hotel Indigo Lower East Side tacks on a $25 plus taxes "destination fee" on all bookings.

Also, it's worth noting that the Hotel Indigo Lower East Side was available for 50,000 points per night before the category changes that went into effect on Jan. 25 bumped it to 55,000 points. So, the discount to 45,000 points — around $225 per TPG valuations — isn't as great of a discount as it originally appears.

If one of those properties doesn't work for you, there's a very long list of NYC hotels that are eligible for the "Stay Longer & Save" discount of up to 20%. You must book three days in advance and stay at least three days to be eligible for this rate.
