If a trip to the Caribbean is on your radar during the frigid winter months, you're not alone and you're in luck. American Airlines is offering some great deals to St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands from major U.S. cities starting at $194 round-trip.

We found out about these low fares, which are available from February to April, through Secret Flying. The most affordable rates are in March.

How to book: Directly through American Airlines or via Google Flights.

Sample flights

The following deals are for basic economy and Main Cabin fares on American Airlines. You are allowed a carry-on and standard seat with a basic economy ticket; a Main Cabin ticket also includes seat selection. A checked bag and priority boarding will cost extra.

One of the most inexpensive round-trip flights we found was from New York (JFK) to St. Thomas (STT) nonstop at the beginning of March for $194.

Travelers can flee the Windy City and head to the sunny shores of St. Thomas from Chicago (ORD) for $203 round-trip. The departure flight includes a short stop in Miami (MIA) and on the return trip there is a layover in New York (JFK).

There is limited availability for direct flights from Miami (MIA) to St. Thomas for $211 round-trip, the cheapest rate we found, from the end of March to the beginning of April.

Travelers have a variety of Main Cabin flights from Austin, Texas (AUS), to St. Thomas throughout March for $266 round-trip. There is a stop in Miami each way.

Flights from Washington, D.C (DCA), to St. Thomas are $268 round-trip throughout March with layovers in Miami each way.
