There's no better way to beat rising summer temperatures and airfare prices than with a deal from ultra-low-cost airline Avelo, which is offering fares up to 50% off to all of its 25 domestic destinations.

Travelers must book a flight by June 23 for travel completed by Nov. 9. Based on a test search conducted for this story, one-way fares start at just $36 for select routes.

For example, if flying from the Washington, D.C., area, your only outgoing flight options are to Orlando; Wilmington, North Carolina; or New Haven, Connecticut.

The greatest availablity is for travelers departing from Tweed New Haven Airport (HVN), where you can fly to a number of cities, including Tampa, Nashville and Chicago.

If your travel dates are flexible, browse the airline's low-fare calendar, as I did for this one-way flight from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) to Orlando (MCO) in September.

From there, click "Next" and select your desired flights. Before moving along, make sure the promo discount code has been successfully applied.

Be warned that the price you see for an Avelo fare is for the fare only. Everything else costs extra, including all luggage, starting at $40 for your first carry-on bag and $35 for your first checked bag if added to your fare at the time of booking. Baggage fees increase to $50 and $45 respectively if added at the airport. Seat selection is available starting at $11.

Maximize your purchase

If you book this deal, use a card that earns bonus points on airfare purchases, such as The Platinum Card® from American Express for 5 points per dollar on airfare booked directly with the airline, on up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year, or the Citi Prestige® Card, also for 5 points per dollar on airfare. Or try the Citi Premier® Card or Chase Sapphire Reserve (both for 3 points per dollar on airfare), the American Express® Gold Card (for 3 points per dollar on airfare when booked directly with the airline) or the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card (for 2 points per dollar on travel). Check out TPG's post for more ways to maximize airfare purchases.

The information for the Citi Prestige Card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Bottom line

This deal is a fantastic opportunity to save money on airfare if Avelo's routes serve your travel needs through early fall. If so, you have one week to make this deal work for you.
