I once awoke in Japan to a notice that my flight to Guam later that day had been cancelled due to an incoming typhoon. When I called the airline to rebook, I was told that the first available flight was four days later.
Luckily, my credit card’s trip delay protection covered those four extra nights and meals while I was stuck waiting for my new flight — a setback that otherwise would have cost me about $900.
Each of these cards has a $95 annual fee, which pales in comparison to the $900 I would’ve otherwise had to cover from that delay. And what’s great is there are other ways to easily offset that fee beyond taking advantage of travel protections.
Plus, for a limited time, you can earn a whopping 100,000 Ultimate Rewards points after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening. That’s the highest-ever offer on this card, worth more than $2,000, according to our June 2026 valuations.
Of course, be sure to check out the advertised travel protections before you apply to ensure the card is a good fit for you. And, when your new card arrives in the mail, read through the guide to benefits to understand exactly how the protections work.
And, if you want to chat with TPG’s team of experts and avoid your own points and miles snafus, join us over on Substack this Thursday, June 24 at 4 p.m. EDT for a live “Office Hours” chat. We’ll be answering your burning points and miles questions, but the chat is only open to subscribers (free or paid), so sign up today, set a calendar alert and don’t miss out.
