Hawaii, Europe and first class for under 10K miles
by Summer Hull, Director of content
The No. 1 misconception I hear about points and miles is that “It takes half a zillion miles to go anywhere you’d want to go.”
It’s certainly true that a flight can cost a lot of miles, especially if you are tied to a specific destination on a specific (busy) date, but did you know that it’s very possible to take really cool trips for under 10,000 miles each way using award chart sweet spots and more?
Don’t believe me? I’ll put my miles where my keyboard is and show you 10 bookable one-way flights I see available for 10,000 miles or less each way (and tell you how to find them yourself using one of my favorite search tools).
Please note: These are real flights I see, but prices vary by flight and by day.
Los Angeles (LAX) to New York (JFK) on JetBlue using 7,700 JetBlue TrueBlue points plus $5.60
Newark (EWR) to St. Martin (SXM) on American Airlines using 10,000 American AAdvantage miles plus $11.20
Newark (EWR) to Aruba (AUA) on United Airlines using 10,000 United MileagePlus miles plus $15.60
Chicago (ORD) to Atlanta (ATL) on American Airlines in first class using 9,000 Atmos Rewards points plus $19
Dallas (DFW) to Denver (DEN) on American Airlines using 4,500 Atmos Rewards points plus $19
New York (JFK) to Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR), on JetBlue using 5,900 JetBlue TrueBlue points plus $24.13
Dallas (DFW) to Vail, Colorado (EGE), on American Airlines in first class using 9,000 Atmos Rewards points plus $19
You’ll notice that some programs, such as Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, JetBlue TrueBlue and Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards, more commonly offer some lower-priced award flights than others (and on really cool routes), so it makes sense to prioritize earning in those programs if your goal is flying for as little as possible.
Here are tips to earn those types of miles and find these flights yourself!
