When it comes to booking airfare, Google Flights is my favorite money-saving tool.
I always begin my flight searches there because it displays nearly every available option between my chosen destinations, and I can find the cheapest fare that works for my schedule.
Google Flights also has a price graph and calendar view that show me if I can save money by flying on alternate dates, and it lets me set fare alerts to be notified if the price of my trip drops.
Recently, the ability to filter out basic economy fares was launched, so you don’t get duped into thinking you’ve found a low price only to realize it’s a fare class that doesn’t let you bring a carry-on or choose your own seat.
Here are a few of my favorite hacks that make Google Flights even more useful:
I use the free Points Path extension to display award rates in Google Flights. It also recommends when I should use rewards versus paying cash.
I use the Google Flights Explore tool to find cheap flights from my home airport to anywhere in the world when I know I want to travel, but don’t have a specific destination in mind.
Check out “Flight Deals,” an artificial intelligence-powered search tool from Google Travel that shows you the lowest-priced flights based on when, where and how you want to travel.
