One thing I love about working at The Points Guy is hearing from our readers. You all let us know what you see, what you hear, what flights you love, what hotels you might not love and everything in between.
We also get a lot of questions from readers, whether they’re just starting their points and miles journey and can’t quite figure out where to start, or they’re pros looking for a super-specific piece of knowledge buried way down in a program’s terms and conditions.
Today, we’re taking a little time to answer some of the most common questions we get at TPG, with links to guides and articles with more details.
No. 1: Can you find and help book award flights for me?
Unfortunately, due to the volume of requests we get like this, it’s not possible for our editors and reporters to help everyone individually. But we have a lot of handy guides to help you book award flights.
No. 4: Can I transfer my points from one airline or hotel program to another?
In most cases, the answer is no — though there are some complicated ways to transfer between different loyalty programs, like hotel points to an airline. Usually, though, that’s not a very lucrative use of your points. This guide gets into the nuances of it all.
No. 5: Can I transfer points back to a credit card program?
That one is a hard no, and one of the biggest issues we hear about from readers. So, before you transfer points, confirm that the flight or hotel you want to book is available and the exact number of points you need. Also, remember that while most point transfers are instantaneous, some might take longer than others.
No. 6: Can I get an elevated welcome bonus by applying outside of the offer dates?
It’s a bummer that great elevated welcome bonuses — at times 100,000 points or higher — come and go in the blink of an eye. You can count on us to highlight these offers when they come around, but once they’re gone, they’re gone. Well, at least until the next great offer rolls around. This article highlights the best elevated offers available right now, and we update it frequently.
Thank you to all the readers who write in to share your personal stories and ways that TPG’s content has helped you in your own points and miles journey. If you have other ideas for coverage, feel free to reply to this email and let us know!
Have a great one!
