Happy Pride! June is the month of the year to celebrate and recognize the LGBTQIA+ community, whether you’re new to the scene or a fierce pro. Events are taking place across the world in June and throughout the summer, so here are some of our favorites — plus some tips on how to get to them.
If you want to serve looks Stateside, we’ve come up with the best points and miles options for flights and accommodations across six U.S. cities hosting Pride events this month, including Denver, San Francisco, Chicago and New York.
Or, if you’re sashaying over to Europe, the Pride in London parade takes place July 5. While the convenience of the parade right in the heart of bustling Soho means it is easy to reach, I have found the Pride crowds can get a little overwhelming in what is already such a bustling area.
You can book economy flights to London via Virgin Atlantic for as little as 10,000 points one-way this summer, or 8,000 Chase points if you take advantage of the current 25% transfer bonus, which expires June 15.
Bring it to the runway in Amsterdam for 10s across the board in what I believe is easily the best Pride festival in Europe from July 26 to Aug. 3, culminating in the iconic Canal Parade on Aug. 2. This spectacular event sees 80 barges floating through the city’s canals — with onboard DJs, live performers, drag queens, pyrotechnics and hydraulics — to the cheers of hundreds of thousands of spectators.
How do the floats fit under the dozens of low bridges along the route? I won’t spoil the surprise.
Air France-KLM’s Flying Blue program offers lie-flat business-class seats to Amsterdam from just 60,000 miles or economy for 25,000 miles, which can be transferred from every major credit card rewards program.
Or, for something less established, try some underrated yet LGBTQIA+-friendly destinations this year, from Medellin, Colombia, to Osaka, Japan. I loved the small but wholesome Taipei, Taiwan, edition that takes place in October.
