It’s hard to believe, but summer is just a few weeks away. And between now and then, we’re going to see some U.S. airlines start nonstop flights to some truly novel places — all reachable with your points and miles.
That includes some destinations that could leave your friends and family asking, “Wait, where are you going?”
United Airlines already got the ball rolling last week with its new nonstop service from Tokyo to Ulaanbaatar — in Mongolia. And yes, a U.S. airline actually now flies there from Japan.
Here are a few other new destinations you may want to check out — and some suggestions on how to score the best redemption:
United goes off the beaten path, shaking it up with brand-new nonstops to two smaller cities in Portugal: Faro (launching May 16) and Madeira (June 7). Also on the horizon: the northern Spanish city of Bilbao (May 31) and Dakar, Senegal (May 23). Then comes Greenland, starting June 14.
Redemption hack: If you’re not finding good options through United’s MileagePlus program, try searching Air Canada Aeroplan or Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer for a Star Alliance partner redemption.
Attention “White Lotus” fans: Previously, there were no nonstop flights from the U.S. to Sicily. Soon, there will be two. A day after United launches Palermo service (May 21), Delta Air Lines will start flying to Catania (May 22).
Honorable mention No. 1: JetBlue’s Mint cabin offers one of the best experiences across the Atlantic, and on May 22, it’s flying to its sixth European destination: Madrid. Try transferring points to TrueBlue (especially if you have Chase Ultimate Rewards points).
If these exciting destinations have you dreaming of your next trip, but you’re unsure of how to get started with a points transfer, then check out TPG’s Points 101 series, where you can learn practical tips for making amazing redemptions.
