Whether you are in an unfamiliar destination or reaching out to an airline for assistance, it can be difficult to know if you are on the right path or being led astray by opportunistic scammers.
Luckily, TPG has you covered with information on some of the most common travel scams and, more importantly, how to avoid them.
Official TSA PreCheck application sites will end in “.gov,” and they will never ask for your credit card information. You only pay when you visit an in-person enrollment center.
Similarly, if you encounter an issue with a delayed or canceled flight, never search online for the airline’s customer service number. Scammers have been known to set up fraudulent phone numbers, pose as a customer service representative and attempt to obtain your credit card information.
Last, but certainly not least, there are several cruise port scams you should be on the lookout for when you sail (and even a travel agent cruise scam to avoid when booking!). The scariest of these, in my opinion, involved being lured in for a free facial near port and leaving with a $10,000 charge.
