When I went to the Department of Motor Vehicles to get my Real ID back in January 2020, I didn’t know that, because of a global pandemic, I’d have a few more years before one would be required. But now, over five years later, time is running out for folks to get a Real ID, an enhanced type of ID with improved security standards.
Starting May 7, Real IDs will be required for federal purposes, like passing through airport security. And for those who have waited to get a Real ID, DMV lines around the country have been surging.
Clear Plus members may also be in luck thanks to the ability to add passports to Clear accounts, though that will only work if you’re entering the airport through a terminal with Clear security lanes.
