The chaos of Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Travel Tuesday and all the other digital shopping events that follow Thanksgiving are a few days away, and if you plan to shop the sales, it’s time to prepare.
Here are the dates you need to remember:
Black Friday — Nov. 29
Cyber Monday — Dec. 2
Travel Tuesday — Dec. 3
Tip No. 1: Ahead of the sales, follow your favorite brand’s social media accounts and sign up for their newsletters to make sure you see what’s on offer — and have first dibs.
Tip No. 2: Check all of the available offers on your credit cards to make sure you’re maximizing every purchase. For example, American Express cardholders should check their Amex Offers and enroll (which is usually as simple as just clicking a button) to activate offers that might get you bonus points or cash back.
Tip No. 3: Check your targeted offers on Amazon. Some readers have been targeted for a wild offer where you can save up to 50% on Amazon by using just 1 Amex point. Other than this special offer, using points to pay for Amazon purchases is typically not the best idea. But if you’re curious about how it works, we have a primer on the subject.
Tip No. 4: Don’t forget about using shopping portals, which we covered earlier this week, and shopping portal aggregators to earn points, miles or cash back or qualify for airline elite status.
As for me, I’ve already used Dis-loyalty’s sale to save over $500 on a four-night stay at The Hoxton, Shoreditch in London early next year.
