Southwest Targeting Flyers for Free Companion Pass After 5 Round-Trip Flights
Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here.
The Southwest Companion Pass is one of the most lucrative airline benefits out there. With it, you can bring one companion (friend, family member, neighbor, coworker, whomever) for almost free on any Southwest flight you take — you'll just have to pay the taxes and fees like you would on an award ticket. What makes it even more rewarding is that you can use it on both paid and award tickets.
Now, Southwest is targeting some Rapid Rewards members for an accelerated offer to earning the coveted perk. TPG reader Brittany H. sent us an email that she'd been targeted as a Phoenix-based flyer for a shortcut to earning the Companion Pass.
With this offer, Southwest is allowing select Rapid Rewards members to earn the Companion Pass through December 31, 2018, after completing five round-trip flights (or 10 one-way flights) to/from Phoenix (PHX). The five round-trip flights or 10 one-way flights must be completed between July 10 and October 31, 2017. The flights must all be revenue tickets, and the targeted Rapid Rewards member must register in order to be eligible for this promotion.
Around this time last year, Southwest targeted flyers based in California and Denver for this same promotion, so it's possible that flyers from other cities could be — now or in the future — targeted for this offer. This is an excellent opportunity to earn this coveted perk if you were indeed targeted — especially considering Southwest's reasonable fares.
Keep in mind there are other ways to earn the Companion Pass — two of the easiest ways to work toward it include signing up for the Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card and its business version. The personal card comes with a sign-up bonus of 40,000 after you spend $1,000 in the first three months, and the business card comes with a sign-up bonus of 60,000 points after you spend $3,000 in the first three months, giving you a total of 100,000 points — just shy of the 110,000 points needed for the Companion Pass.
Were you targeted for an accelerated Companion Pass offer from Southwest? If so, from what city?
