Two of the biggest pain points for family travel are car seats and car rentals. There are some ways to ease those pain points, but you cannot eliminate them entirely without just hiring a chauffeur service for your whole trip. However, when Silvercar works as it should, you can get pretty close to streamlining this part of the journey. I've professed my love of the Silvercar all-Audi rentals before (and even recently tried their Audi Q5 SUV rental!), but starting on May 13th, what was already very good is getting even better for young families.

Silvercar now offers free Peg Perego car seat rentals

Silvercar famously doesn't charge huge markups for things that some rental cars use as their money-makers including tolls, refueling, ski racks, and car seats. I've always found their car seats to be clean and of much higher quality than your average car rental car seat. However, now they are upping their car seat game further with a new partnership with Peg Perego, a premium car seat manufacturer!

Starting May 13, 2018, Silvercar will be offering the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio Convertible seat and Viaggio Flex 120 car seats at no extra charge at all of their locations! Y'all, this is huge. They are now light-years ahead of what any other rental car company offers to families with young children.

If you don't know much about car seats, these Italian-made seats are basically the Audi of car seats, which makes sense given that Silvercar only rents Audis. Whereas you can pick up a light-weight and inexpensive car seat for about $30 (and I actually love that option for travel), these car seats sell for over $300 and are not only safe, but actually comfortable for little ones to sit in.

Silvercar locations don't have an infinite number of these car seats onhand, so let them know you need one after making your reservation by emailing and then continue to follow-up as the reservation approaches to make sure they have one available for you.

In terms of which car seat you need for your kids, the Primo Viaggio Convertible can be used rear facing for children 5 - 45 lbs and forward facing for children 22 - 65 lbs, up to the maximum height limits. Viaggio Flex 120 can be used for children from 40 -120 lbs and up to 63” in height.

Save money on your Silvercar rentals

If you want to try out these included car seats and are new to Silvercar, be sure and not only use a new customer rental code to save money, but stack a referral code to earn a $25 Visa gift card with your first Silvercar rental. My Silvercar referral code is SHULL and here are some instructions on how to enter the code prior to your first rental to earn your gift card.

If you have a Visa Infinite card, such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve, then even existing Silvercar customers can save 30% on Silvercar rentals of two days or longer by using the code VINFINITE. This works on both the Audi A4s and the Q5s, so it can really save you some serious cash. You might as well pay for the rental with your Chase Sapphire Reserve, too, as it has built-in primary car rental coverage. Learn more.

How we chose these cards

Our points-obsessed staff uses a plethora of credit cards on a daily basis. If anyone on our team wouldn’t recommend it to a friend or a family member, we wouldn’t recommend it on The Points Guy either.
