Competition is heating up over Paris.

Low-cost Norse Atlantic Airways said Tuesday that it will launch flights between New York John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) and Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport (CDG) beginning in March.

The announcement comes less than two weeks after New York-based JetBlue similarly revealed plans to fly between New York and Paris, throwing new competition into a market largely dominated by the joint venture between Delta and Air France-KLM.

Norse said it plans to operate daily service starting on March 26, 2023. Eastbound flights will depart JFK at 12:30 a.m. and arrive in Paris at 2:05 p.m., all times local. Westbound flights depart at 7:45 p.m., arriving at 10 p.m.

The Norse model borrows heavily from Norwegian Air — the ultra-low-cost transatlantic airline that rapidly grew into a major transatlantic player before hitting economic headwinds and eventually shifting its focus to short-haul European flying during the pandemic. Like Norwegian did, Norse uses Boeing 787 Dreamliners outfitted with a premium economy and regular coach cabin. It debuted in June with flights between New York and Oslo, Norway (OSL). The airline also flies between Oslo and Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and Los Angeles (LAX), and from JFK to London Gatwick (LGW) and Berlin (BER).

Fares on the JFK-Paris route will begin at 219 euros each way, the airline said, which comes out to about $226.

TPG staffers who have flown on Norse have generally been impressed with both cabins, considering the fares they paid. For those who previously flew on Norwegian, the experience should be familiar; Norse uses many of the same exact aircraft that Norwegian previously used.
