Breakfast is about to get a whole lot better (and tastier) at select Marriott properties in October.

Next month, four Marriott brands — Residence Inn by Marriott, SpringHill Suites by Marriott, Fairfield by Marriott and TownePlace Suites by Marriott — will roll out new, complimentary and “highly customizable” breakfast options for guests across the U.S.

Note that the new options will not be immediately available at all locations, but that's the goal soon.

These new breakfast options, according to an announcement from Marriott, include build-your-own bowls; hot sandwiches; spinach and cheese crustless quiche; sausage, egg and cheese on a whole-wheat bagel; and jalapeno cheddar baked souffle. Gluten-free items and fresh fruit will also be available.

And, because every morning should start with a jolt of caffeine, fresh-brewed coffee and tea will also be on hand.

Marriott knows that breakfast is an essential part of many travelers’ hotel stays. “Breakfast has long been a celebrated experience during a hotel stay — a moment to gather before exploring a destination or a reliable grab-and-go kickstart to the day," said Diane Mayer, vice president and global brand manager for Classic Select Brands at Marriott.

To nail down the exact offerings being introduced at the four brands, Marriott conducted a guest survey and found that 75% of guests would rather eat at a hot breakfast buffet instead of have traditional continental options and that, despite the pandemic, 72% of travelers feel ready to eat at a buffet again.

For the build-your-own bowls, guests can choose from yogurt, oatmeal or cereal and pile on healthy toppings such as pumpkin seeds, coconut flakes and granola, among others. Popular sauces and toppings, including sriracha and Cholula hot sauce (which this writer puts on everything), will be on hand for guests to enjoy on cage-free eggs, sustainably raised pork and wherever else their hearts desire.

For many travelers, breakfast is serious business, but not all hotel breakfasts are made equal. At many properties around the world, getting free breakfast is a significant perk. So much so, in fact, we’ve created a handy guide to elite breakfast benefits for Marriott Bonvoy members. At some Marriott hotels, for example, elite members can expect breakfast buffets or a $150 credit for room service while others offer only nominal credits that will hardly get you a croissant.

With the four hotel brands offering Marriott’s new breakfast to all guests, not just elite Bonvoy members, travelers can expect significant savings on dollars that would otherwise be spent buying breakfast. This is especially true for families with multiple children or larger groups who decide to skip pancakes in town for a hot breakfast sandwich, yogurt and coffee at the hotel.

And considering how the pandemic has changed many hotels’ breakfast offerings, having free and customizable hot breakfast options at these hotels might just be a sign that the hotel experience is returning to something close to normal.

Initially launching at select properties, expect to see these exciting new breakfast options in about 3,000 hotels around the country this winter.
