'Calm' App Now Gives Subscribers XpresSpa Access at 52 US Airports
Getting your travel stress under control may have just gotten a bit easier.
Wellness app Calm is making further expansions into the world of aviation. Following its partnership with American Airlines in which it placed peace-inducing and meditative entertainment options in flights, Calm announced a $3 million equity investment in ubiquitous airport chain XpresSpa Group.
The investment, according to TechCrunch, is a means of expanding the Calm brand into the retail world. Calm's partnership with XpresSpa provides an opportunity to further the app's offline growth, as well as products like its Sleep Mist and Calm Book. With the new investment, Calm subscribers can expect access to various spa treatments and advantages at any of the 52 locations spread throughout the US.
A subscription to Calm costs $69.99 a year. But, access to the app is free (and has 36 million users).
"The need for mental fitness in our stressed, fast-paced world is clear, and we've already seen a tremendous increase in our digital user base, growing 110% percent in downloads this year," Calm cofounder and co-CEO Michael Acton Smith said in a statement. "By partnering with XpresSpa, we're expanding beyond our core app offering to reach more offline consumers, and dialing in on a common consumer pain point: traveler stress."
